Native Plants
Q. Who is Mr. Smarty Plants?
A: There are those who suspect Wildflower Center volunteers are the culpable and capable culprits. Yet, others think staff members play some, albeit small, role. You can torture us with your plant questions, but we will never reveal the Green Guru's secret identity.
Did you know you can access the Native Plant Information Network with your web-enabled smartphone?
Ask Mr. Smarty Plants is a free service provided by the staff and volunteers at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center.

Title: Replanting yaupon in Blanco TX
Answered by: Barbara Medford
QUESTION:
How do I replant Yaupon in its native area Blanco TX?ANSWER:
We are a little puzzled; you want to replant Ilex vomitoria (Yaupon) in Blanco Co, but your e-mail came from Caldwell County. May we read beween the lines just a wee bit? Are you moving from Martindale (Caldwell County) to Blanco (Blanco Co)? Fortunately, we have a previous Mr. Smarty Plants answer that addresses this question, not between the counties noted here, but still two areas in Texas. There are more links to transplanting in that answer. The yaupon is around in a lot of places in Texas and is a tough survivor. The best time to do the transplant is now, in mid-winter in Texas.
