Native Plants

Q. Who is Mr. Smarty Plants?
A: There are those who suspect Wildflower Center volunteers are the culpable and capable culprits. Yet, others think staff members play some, albeit small, role. You can torture us with your plant questions, but we will never reveal the Green Guru's secret identity.

Title: Butternut blossom time from Milwaukee WI
Answered by: Barbara Medford
QUESTION:
When does the butternut tree blossom?ANSWER:
Juglans cinerea (Butternut), a member of the walnut family, blooms April to June, and is native to Wisconsin. There is apparently another tree with the common name "butternut" that is native to Australia, but we are assuming you are referring to the tree native to North America. From the USDA Forest Service, here is more information on it. Pictures
