Q. Who is Mr. Smarty Plants?

A: There are those who suspect Wildflower Center volunteers are the culpable and capable culprits. Yet, others think staff members play some, albeit small, role. You can torture us with your plant questions, but we will never reveal the Green Guru's secret identity.

Title: American basswood in Austin
Answered by: Damon Waitt

QUESTION:

Where can I purchase a fledgling linden tree in Austin?

ANSWER:

Tilia americana (American basswood) or Linden Tree is a stately, wide-spreading tree, 60-80 ft. tall, occasionally growing taller. Conical in its younger form, the crown becomes rounded with age. It is more common in east Texas  in the big thicket than in central Texas so you may have difficulty finding a commercial source in the Austin area. Mr. Smarty Plants suggets you contact, one of the nurseries listed for the Austin area in the National Organizations Directory to find a source for this area.
