Note: There are two versions of this workshop! If you’re looking for the adult-geared version, learn and register here.
Bring the outdoors indoors with your family this spring with a closed system terrarium: a unique way to display your love of native plants while requiring minimal care on your end. In this virtual, hands-on workshop, youth’s alone or with an adult will create their own closed terrarium as they learn all about how the plants, soil and water work together, creating its own little ecosystem that can thrive indoors for years. A closed system terrarium is a great long-term project and learning experience for children of all ages as they watch how a sealed ecosystem works in real-time.
This workshop will include child-friendly, virtual, hands-on instruction on how to construct your very own closed terrarium using native plants, just like this one, inside of a tall glass vessel, along with tips for maintenance and placement in your home. All materials and instructions are included with registration and will be available for contactless pick up the week prior to the workshop. Materials may be mailed to registrants living outside of Austin city limits for an additional fee.
This class is open to all grade levels, no experience required. Adult assistance is suggested.
