A gardener in a straw hat tends to a field of tall violet and white flowers

It takes a lot of effort and skill to keep the gardens of the Wildflower Center looking beautiful year-round. Tune in each Thursday during this 12-week series as Wildflower Center horticulturists share that week’s garden tasks during a busy, beautiful Texas spring. Get the dirt on seasonal gardening with native plants and learn about our staff’s favorite tools and techniques.

Seasoned gardeners and beginners alike are sure to grow their knowledge with this weekly behind-the-scenes series and enjoy seeing what’s coming up at the Center.

Class Topics:

April 22: Integrated Pest Management
Put the good bugs to work this week and keep your environment healthy and happy! Discuss techniques for keeping deer, dogs and kids from wreaking havoc on your garden.

April 29: Wildlife and Pollinator Habitats
Enjoy the birds, bees, butterflies, reptiles and mammals that your garden attracts year-round and learn how to maintain an inviting space for them. This week will also feature special footage and instruction on how to create those sought-after small container ponds.

May 6: Pruning and Caring for Trees and Shrubs
When should you prune and what are the best techniques for properly pruning your trees and shrubs? These are the questions that you may be asking yourself this time of the year but remember, you don’t always need to call the experts. In this class, we’ll talk to one of our own arborists here at the Wildflower Center for some answers to these questions.

May 13: Cut and Come Again
Get the most bang for your buck this season with hard-working perennials. We will also talk about harvesting seeds throughout the season.

May 20: Propagation Tips
What can you grow from a cutting? How do you know which plants grow best from seed? Which plants do well with division? In this week’s class, we’ll take some of the mystery out of propagating your own plants with a little help from our experts in the nursery.

May 27: Where To Go From Here?
As our series comes to an end we’d like to talk about how to keep motivated by engaging with garden clubs, volunteering in gardens and nurseries, or working in a community garden.

Stay tuned for updates on upcoming class topics.
