A yard covered in wildflowers and other native plants, which is a more sustainable and more beautiful alternative to grass lawns.
Resoration Research landscape

First appearing on earth 5 million years ago, grasslands covered almost one-third of the earth’s surfaces. Less than 1% of native prairies remain intact today in North America making prairies one of the most endangered and least protected ecosystems on earth. We can attribute much of this loss to crop farming, housing development and urban sprawl. With your commitment to establishing and maintaining pocket prairies in both rural and urban settings, we can work together to introduce pocket prairies back into our communities and help reverse the loss of biodiversity and ecosystem services.

Taught by experienced Environmental Designer, John Hart Asher, this two-hour class will provide students with the steps needed for designing, installing and caring for a pocket prairie as it evolves over time.

This class is for all with an interest in pocket prairies, environmental design and biodiversity. All ages and experience levels are welcome.

Participants will have the option to participate in this class either in person at Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center or online via Zoom. A Zoom link and all handouts will be sent to all registrants at least 24 hours prior to the class. Please contact our education offices if you have any additional questions. Space is limited and registration is required. Face masks are optional. Please review our Safety Guidelines before your visit.
