Native Plant Gardening Series: Plants I

Part of the Native Plant Gardening Series, in this class students will identify and learn about a variety of plants native to Central Texas, unique growing characteristics of each, and how to choose the right ones for a garden.

The Native Plant Gardening Series prepares students to transform their yards and gardens into efficient and beautiful native plant landscapes over the course of six classes (Saturdays, March 9 – 23 and Sunday, March 10). Take the classes individually or enroll in the entire series and save. This is one of our most popular offerings and the series will sell out. $45 per class or $243 for six-class series. Series participants choose either small-lot landscape or large-scale landscape design class. Members receive a discount on registration; learn about membership here.

Full Series Schedule:

Small-lot Landscape Design, March 9, 9 a.m. – noon
Design for your own backyard or other relatively small spaces (an acre or less).

Plants I, March 9, 1 – 4 p.m.
Identify and learn about a variety of plants native to Central Texas, unique growing characteristics of each and how to choose the right ones for a garden.

Large-scale Landscape Design, March 10, 1 – 4 p.m.
Learn to analyze a site and design large-scale projects that can otherwise feel overwhelming.

Plants II, March 16, 9 a.m. – noon
Dig deeper into the topic of Texas flora. Learn about native plants and where to find them as well as resources to keep growing. Plants I is recommended prior to this class.

Installation, March 16, 1 – 4 p.m.
Learn site preparation, irrigation, planting best practices and mulch application for a healthy garden.

Maintenance, March 23, 9 a.m. – noon
Maintaining a native garden requires knowledge of plant physiology, gardening tools, watering guidelines and other best practices. Learn it all in this essential class.

Integrated Pest Management, March 23, 1 – 4 p.m.
Identify common beneficial and harmful insects in your garden landscape. This class also covers pest management, treatment and safety practices.
