Jean Andrews Lecture Series: “Of Mummies and Melons”

The Unversity of Texas at Austin Department of Integrative Biology and Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center are teaming up this year to host the first-ever virtual edition of the Jean Andrew Lecture Series!

In this year’s Jean Andrews seminar, “Of Mummies and Melons: How do we know who ate which plant when?”, renowned evolutionary biology and botanist, Dr. Susane S. Renner will take viewers on a virtual journey from the tombs of ancient Egypt to mid-20th century Russia, and to herbaria all over the world, to explore the origins and biogeographical history of modern watermelons. Dr. Renner is currently an Honorary Professor of Biology at Washington University St. Louis and previously served as the director of Munich Botanical Garden. Dr. Renner has an impressive research portfolio which has broadly focussed on the evolution and biogeography of flower plants and important crop plants.

This lecture, in addition to being part of the celebrated Jean Andrews Lecture Series, will form part of the inaugural Texas Science Festival. Registration for this event will take place through the University of Texas, Texas Science Festival.

Space is limited and registration is required. This virtual event will be held via Zoom.
