For more than 40 years, the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center has been at the forefront of native plant conservation, ecological research, and public education. Founded in 1982 by Lady Bird Johnson with the vision of promoting the appreciation and use of native plants, the Center has evolved into a world-class botanic garden and research institution. Today, it spans 284 acres and features a diverse range of Texas ecosystems, making it an essential resource for families, educators, scientists, and conservationists alike.
As Texas’ official state botanic garden and arboretum, the Center is embarking on a bold new chapter—envisioning the future through a transformative site plan that will expand public access, strengthen research and conservation efforts, and further establish the Center as a model for environmental resiliency.

With over 250,000 annual visitors and a rapidly growing membership, the Center is embracing its next phase of growth with ambitious goals:
