Wildflower Gardener's Guide: Midwest, Great Plains, and Canadian Prairies Edition

Author(s): Art, H. W.

Year: 1991

Publisher: Pownal, Vt. : Garden Way Pub.

ISBN: 0882666681

Subject: Wildflowers, Gardening

Comments: From Library Journal In this fifth volume in a series of native plant and wildflower guides ( The Wildflower Gardener's Guide: Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, Great Lakes, and Eastern Canada Edition , LJ 5/1/87), Art focuses his attention on 34 of the most easily cultivated species native to the North American heartland. Included are tables comparing plants by color, height, flowering season, habitat, and hardiness. Information on individual wildflowers lists common names, description, culture, companion plants, and extensive information on propagation, which is a real strength of the book. Each plant profile is accompanied by a detailed botanical illustration. Throughout, Art stresses a strong conservation ethic (e.g., not digging up plants from the wild). Given the current interest in perennial and native plants, this book is highly recommended for all midwestern gardening collections, and for comprehensive collections elsewhere. - Virginia A. Henrichs, Chicago Botanic Garden Lib., Glencoe, Ill.
