GARDEN VIEWS

An inside glimpse of the gardens from our Instagram feed

Meet Birdhouse, a Fortlandia creation inspired by the iconic, abstract forms of birdhouses and the imaginative drawings of children. It looks simple from the outside, but once you step in, you start noticing all the little details that make kids want to stay awhile.

Designed by @cushingterrell, Birdhouse stacks three bright “houses,” each painted after a native Texas bird: the Golden-cheeked Warbler, Blue Jay, and Wood Duck.

It’s fun, no doubt, but also sparks conversations about the birds we share the landscape with. That’s what makes Fortlandia special: playful design that naturally gets people noticing nature again.

You’ll find Birdhouse in our Family Garden as part of this year’s Fortlandia exhibition — and it also is available to explore during Luminations, where the colors take on a whole new glow.

The gardens are glowing again ✨ Luminations opens Friday, Dec. 5 — who’s joining us for opening weekend?

This #GivingTuesday, we’re thinking about the many different ways people experience the Wildflower Center — families wandering the trails, students on field trips, quiet moments under the trees, or folks getting a bit of movement in as they explore.

The gardens and trails call to people in different ways, echoing Lady Bird Johnson’s belief that the environment is our shared ground, something that connects us all. Keeping this a place of inspiration and action is the heart of our work.

As you consider your year-end giving, we invite you to imagine the world you want to live in — and help us cultivate it. Because such a world doesn’t grow on its own — it needs your green thumb.
