Gather a trowel or shovel, watering can with water, gloves and bare-root plant to transplant.
Dig a hole one-and-a-half times larger than the size of the plants’ root system. Set soil aside.
Center the plant so that all of its roots are in the hole and the plant’s base is at ground level.
Fill the entire hole with water while keeping the plant centered. Begin slowly adding soil back in.
Gently press soil around roots to remove air bubbles. Continue to fill and press until ground level is reached.
Water the plant in thoroughly. This “mudding in” technique will insure a successful transplant.
