What: "A.R. Valentien Botanicals" exhibit
When: April 1 to June 30
Where: McDermott Learning Center at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, 4801 LaCrosse Ave, Austin, TX
Background: The "A.R. Valentien Botanicals" exhibit is on loan from the San Diego Natural History Museum. The artist depicts the beauty and purity of native California plants with dazzling watercolors and lifelike illustrations. Although meticulous in their execution, each painting is breathtakingly vibrant and full of spontaneity. Valentien began his work in 1908, and for the next ten years traveled throughout the state of California completing 1,094 paintings that depicted 1,500 species of plants.
