The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center has selected The Woodlands, Texas painter L.Ray as the official artist for Wildflower DaysTM 2008. Ray's transparent watercolor painting of the Gaillardia, a native Texas wildflower also known as the Indian blanket, has been chosen as the official art for Wildflower DaysTM 2008.
L.Ray's original painting will become part of the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center's permanent art collection and will be prominently displayed for all to see. In addition, posters of the Gaillardia will be available in the Center's gift store and the painting will be used to promote Wildflower DaysTM.
Wildflower DaysTM is a season of special spring events, which includes the Artists and Artisans Festival, March 15 and 16, the Spring Plant Sale and Gardening Festival, April 12 and 13 and Gardens on Tour, May 10.
In summer 2008, more than 25 of L.Ray's original paintings will be on exhibit in a one-man show titled "Butterfly Portraits Beyond Scale," at the McDermott Learning Center. This exhibition will open May 24 and close July 31.
