What: Luminations is a Winter Celebration at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center. The main gardens will be ablaze with lights from more than 3,000 luminarias, 5,000 twinkle lights and hammered copper torches. The display will illuminate some of our beautiful winter native plants-- dramatic grasses, cacti, red oak, yaupon, possomhaw with its bright red berries, bitterweed and salvia greggii.
Where: 4801 LaCrosse Ave., Austin, TX Music and Refreshments: Complimentary cider and cookies for all guests. The music from mariachis and hand bell choirs and more will reflect the rich and diverse heritage of Central Texas. So will the special menu in the café featuring festive holiday tamales, enchiladas and soups, coffee and cocoa.
For the Children: Frosty the Snowman and other special guests will be wandering the grounds available for pictures with the little ones. Craftmaking sessions teach children to create a snowflake craft and a birdseed ornament to feed our feathered friends. Storytelling in the Little House. Community Tree Project: Visit the lavishly decorated community trees in the McDermott Learning Center. Various organizations have been asked to decorate a tree for display. Luminations guests will vote on the most beautiful tree. Shopping Specials: The store holiday specials will include tree ornaments, locally produced food products and perfect gifts for everyone on your list. On Friday, Artist Patti Johnson will personalize her handpainted wildflower glass ornaments. On Saturday, a delicious new holiday treat-- cranberry jalapeno relish and honey butter in four flavors. On Sunday, Flo Oxley, Wildflower Center Director of Plant Conservation, signs the 2007 Wildflower Center Calendar
