Fall Plant Sale and Gardening Festival Offers Help for Summer-Weary Gardeners

Did the hot summer wreck your garden? There's help coming from the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center at the University of Texas at Austin at the Fall Plant Sale & Gardening Festival. When: [9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, October 14 and 15. Members Only Preview: 1 to 7 p.m. Friday, October 13. What: More than 270 species of hardy and beautiful native plants, as well as guided walks and garden tips from the Wildflower Center's experts. Check out the plant list at www.wildflower.org. Parking: Park at the Wildflower Center, 4801 La Crosse Avenue. Bring a wagon, if you can, to transport your plants and bring your plastic pots to recycle-4 inch, 1 gallon and 5 gallon only, please. Music: Music in the courtyard by world music orchestra, Mundi, noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, and the Annoying Instrument Orchestra, noon to 2 p.m. Sunday. Garden Tours: Guided tours on the hour starting at 10 a.m. Extended hours at the café. For the Kids: Planting lessons at 11 a.m. See BIG BUGS. Make an Ecopot in the Little House.

Book Signings: Jim and Jerry Touchstone Kimmel will sign their book, "The Marcos" in the store from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, when they will be joined by Brian and Shirley Loflin signing "Grasses of the Teas Hill Country." On Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m., Damon Waitt, Ph.D., the Center's senior botanist, will sign copies of the updated "Texas Wildflowers".
