What: The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center of The University of Texas at Austin goes wild for the holidays with artists, artisans and special sales during the 22ndAnnual Wild Ideas Shopping Event.
When: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Nov. 30 and Dec. 1. Noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2.

Background: The Wildflower Center is the perfect place to shop for holiday gifts the first weekend in December. Enjoy free admission while getting in the holiday mood with 20 percent discounts on all Store merchandise daily and the beautiful artistry of handcrafted jewelry, nature photography, silk throws and more. Added Store discounts apply at the start of Friday’s and Sunday’s events. Friday’s offerings include an extra 10 percent off all gift items other than apparel and books from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. Promptly at 11 a.m, see the U.S. Postal Service dedicate the Lady Bird Johnson postage stamp indoors – arriving early Friday for best parking would be wise because of this concurrent event. At Wild Ideas Friday, also enjoy Smith Sisters Pottery Trunk Show in The Store from noon to 5 p.m. During the weekend, talk to 10 artists and artisans who will display their wares for sale in the Visitors Gallery. Also Saturday in The Store, visit with Susan Sullivan and the woven throws of Manual Woodworkers and Weavers at a trunk show from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. And from noon to 4 p.m. that day, view a trunk show of jewelry by Robin Goodfellow, while Jen Ohslon signs “Every Town Needs a Trail.” Check out the end of the compelling Lady Bird’s Lake exhibit in the McDermott Learning Center on site, which is partly based on excerpts from her book. On Sunday, an early bird apparel special adds 10 percent to your general Store discount and lasts from noon to 1 p.m. From 1 to 3 p.m., Michael Gillette signs “Lady Bird Johnson: An Oral History.” And from 1 to 4 p.m., Ralph Yznaga signs “Living Witness: Historic Trees of Texas” alongside a demonstration of scarves, ponchos and capes at The Store.
