Luminations Dec. 10 and 11

What: Luminations: The Wildflower Center’s holiday gift to the community.
When: 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, December 10 and 11. Canned good offerings as admission.

Background: The gardens of the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center of The University of Texas at Austin will be ablaze with thousands of twinkle lights and luminarias the second weekend in December, with visitors enjoying eclectic holiday music, a puppet show and more. Admission is free with two food items for the Capital Area Food Bank, with donations last year providing 3,000 meals over the holiday season.
A dozen musical acts perform indoors, including saxophone and clarinet quartets, a classical guitarist, banjo players and folksingers. Holiday trees provide a backdrop to the music in the McDermott Learning Center. Artists who make designer T-shirts, scarves and other holiday gifts will be on site. University of Texas student organizations will join the center Café staff in the courtyard in selling light refreshments and goodies.
For members: A Members Lounge indoors will offer hot beverages and snacks.
For kids: Hug Frosty the Snowman and see a holiday puppet show Saturday at 7 p.m. in the courtyard. Children can also make abstract ornaments coated with marbles, watercolor holiday cards and other crafts in the Visitors Gallery, and help Teenage Ecowarriors create wreaths from recycled plastic bags in the Little House.
