2011 Photo Contest Exhibit

Event:  A national photo contest held by the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center of The University of Texas at Austin is culminating with a display of winner and runner-up photos. With more than twice as many images to choose from this year, the exhibit in the McDermott Learning Center highlights captivating images from across North America.
When:  Saturday, Nov. 5 through Sunday, Nov. 27.

Where:  Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, 4801 La Crosse Avenue, Austin, Texas 78739.

Background: The second annual photo contest exhibit portrays winning photographs selected from 5,000 submissions that showcased diverse plants and landscapes across North America. The contest in partnership with Texas Highways magazine involved images that were chosen in the categories of Landscape, Botanical, Black and White, People with Flowers, and Under Age 18.

Judges combed through thousands of entries submitted from as far away as India to select the most fascinating images. Only a surprising three out of the nine winners live in Texas. The winning photographs were chosen for composition, adherence to technical guidelines and sheer beauty. First-place winners received a commemorative bowl handcrafted from native Texas mesquite by Curtis Alston Laudermilk of Bryan, Texas. Cash prizes and family-level memberships to the Wildflower Center were awarded to all winners.
