WHO: In celebration of National Public Gardens Day, the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center of The University of Texas at Austin invites the Central Texas community to visit their grounds on Friday, May 6, 2011 for educational tours and activities.
WHAT: Presented by the American Public Garden’s Association and Rain Bird, National Public Gardens Day is a national day of awareness in which communities nationwide are invited to visit and learn about the important role their public gardens play in promoting environmental stewardship and awareness, plant and water conservation, and education.
On Friday, May 6, 2011, the Wildflower Center will give expert guided tours to educate the community on native plants’ preferred habitat and their drought-tolerant capabilities. Additionally, guests are invited to view photo exhibits and explore the Center’s Visitors Gallery and its interactive stations to learn how wildflowers do much more than add beauty to landscapes.
WHEN: Friday May 6, 2011, the start of Mother’s Day Weekend
• At 10:00 a.m. in the presence of attending city council members, executive director of the Wildflower Center, Susan Rieff will be presented with a City of Austin proclamation recognizing the national holiday
• Guided tours of the center’s gardens will occur at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
