Tree Talk & Winter Walk

Cooler weather signals a great time of year to plant trees. On Saturday, January 22, 2005, the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center will host Tree Talk & Winter Walk, an opportunity to learn more about trees in your environment, and to purchase a native Texas tree for your home. Admission is free and more than 30 tree species will be available for sale.

From 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., this one-day event is packed with organized walks, talks, demonstrations, children's activities, and useful information on trees including proper tree care, maintenance, planning and landscaping with trees.

Activities and Speakers Include:

  • 10 a.m. Talk - "The Value of the Urban Forest," Jim Carse, Texas Forest Service
  • 11 a.m. Walk & Talk - "Beneficial Trees for Wildlife in Your Garden," Bill Stout, National Wildlife Federation
  • Noon Tree Planting Demonstration - TreeFolks
  • 1 p.m. Walk - "Designing with Trees," landscape designer Elizabeth McGreevy Seiler
  • 2 p.m. Talk - "How to Identify & Manage Oak Wilt," Dr. Damon Waitt, Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center
  • 3 p.m. Walk & Talk - "Maintaining the Health of Your Trees," arborist Don Gardner
  • 4 p.m. Walk - "Bird Friendly Trees & Shrubs," Jane Tillman, Travis Audubon Society
