FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Center Experts on KLBJ Call-In Show

What:  Tom Spencer’s gardening show on KLBJ has become Wildflower Hour, with Center experts speaking.  When:  Wildflower Hour began Saturday, Sept. 26, and will continue every Saturday from 8 to 9 a.m.  Background: From 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. every Saturday on Newsradio 590 KLBJ, Tom Spencer hosts a gardening show that morphed September 26 into the Wildflower Hour. During the new show, Spencer interviews a center expert about native plants, green gardening and related topics, with questions from listeners welcomed.  Spencer said of the new show, “One thing this drought sure has taught us is the value of gardening with native plants - so tune in to learn more about how to keep your garden green year round. And, don't worry, we'll still help you out with the brown patch that's killing your lawn.” This past Saturday,  the center’s horticulture director, Andrea DeLong-Amaya spoke about butterfly gardening. Topics on upcoming Saturdays will be:
  • Online resources about native plants: Oct. 3, Dr. Damon Waitt, senior botanist
  • Selecting the right garden plants: Oct. 10, Senior Horticulturist Julie Krosley, speaking from the Center’s Fall Plant Sale & Gardening Festival
  • Seeding wildflower plots: Oct. 17, Assistant Horticulturist Phillip Schulze
