Astronomy Nature Night

EVENT:  Back by popular demand, the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center at The University of Texas at Austin sponsors a night of celestial discovery as its first monthly Nature Night of the spring. Tom Montemayor from the outreach education staff of the university's McDonald Observatory provides an engaging lecture about the cosmos. Field telescope viewing occurs in a center meadow. Astronomy crafts for kids and take-home activities provided. More than 400 area residents attended an astronomy Nature Night last fall. Admission: $1, or free for members.

  • Wildflowers -Thursday, April 16, 6 to 9 p.m.

Learn about our cultural connection to Texas wildflowers while learning legends and lore about bluebonnets and other spring wildflowers. Take guided hikes involving plant identification while center gardens are in full bloom.

  • Animal Tracking-Friday, May 29, 6 to 9 p.m.

Hit the trails at the Wildflower Center and discover animals that live in Central Texas. Clues to their lives will be found from their tracks, scat and skeletal remains.
