The low, sticky basal leaves are inconspicuous until one to several, erect, 2-3 ft. flowering stalks appear. These are leafy, the foliage becoming gradually reduced upwards. Narrow, congested clusters of tubular flowers occur at the stem tops. Flowers are greenish-white to purple with slashed petals.
