Bilaterally symmetrical blue-violet corollas turned to one side in a narrow, long, open flower cluster above a leafy base.

This is a common Penstemon in dry open woodland in the Southwest. Of several species in this huge, beautiful genus that have blue-violet flowers and narrow leaves, some have 2 ridges inside the corolla.
