Penthorum sedoides

Penthorum sedoides L.

Ditch Stonecrop

Crassulaceae (Stonecrop Family)

Synonym(s):

USDA Symbol: PESE6

USDA Native Status: L48 (N), CAN (N)

Inconspicuous, greenish-yellow flowers clustered on one side of slender, diverging stalks.

The genus name is derived from the Greek pente ("five") and horos ("mark") and refers to the 5-parted pattern of the flower. This wildflower resembles members of the genus Sedum in the stonecrop family (Crassulaceae), hence the species and common names. However, Ditch Stonecrop lacks the succulent leaves of stonecrops.
