The Dog-tooth Violet is actually a lily. It grows 4-8 inches tall on a bare stem that grows out of a pair of sturdy leaves that reach higher than the blossom. The leaves, 1 1/4-1 1/2 inches wide, are smooth and shiny, with each side curved toward the center. The single blossom has 6 yellow tepals that curve backward toward the stem and are 3/4-1 1/2 inches long. The 6 stamens have brown anthers.
