Usually less than 1 ft. tall, the branched flowering stalk of this perennial bears three- to five-cleft leaves above a basal cluster of broader, undivided foliage. Glossy yellow, five-petaled flowers occur singly on slender stalks from the axils of upper leaves. Petals are often tinged with lavender underneath.

Soil Description: Sandy or gravelly soils.
Conditions Comments: Colonies of this hardy buttercup have been known to persist in quack sod. Effective in rock gardens and borders.

Propagation

Description: Fresh seed planted in June emerges in August and flowers the following spring. Seeds have low germination. Division of mature plants provides another means of increase.
