A low shrub, usually less than 3 feet tall, with arched, leafy stems. On limestone cliffs along streams; apparently rare shrub. Leaves numerous, small, up to 1/2 inch long by 3/8 inch wide, tapering more gradually to the base than to the rounded tip. Flowers greenish, not showy, on threadlike pedicels roughly 1/2 inch long arising from the axils of the leaves. Male and female flowers not the same size, male about 1/4 inch wide and female almost twice this size, and on separate plants, appearing from April through summer. Fruit a small, rounded capsule broader than long.
