Cut rice grass is a native bunchgrass that tolerates shade, low water, and poor soil. The foliage is a light lime green and has a soft texture. Cut rice grass is deer resistant as well as being disease and maintenance free. This bunchgrass is uncommon in the Edward's Plateau although it is common in the eastern third of the Untied States. In the Hill Country it generally occurs near intermittent waterways and/or in protected canyons. This bunchgrass generally grows on slopes and can form large colonies by stolonizing to form a monoculture.
