Considered the most refined of the monkey-flowers, this bushy perennial is sometimes classed as a sub-shrub. The spreading plants, from 16-28 in. high, bear glossy foliage and a myriad of azalea-like flowers, with deeply notched petals. Flower color ranges from white to apricot with darker splotches of orange and yellow toward the throat. The lance-shaped leaves curl and become sticky on hot days.

Old growth on these plants becomes leggy and brittle.
