An openly branched, spindly plant with yellow or dull purplish, bilaterally symmetrical flowers resembling birds’ beaks in clusters at branch ends.
Most of the nearly 40 species of Bird's Beak are found in western North America. The plants tend to grow in dry places, blooming late in the season when most other flowers have passed. The color of the corolla varies from white to dull violet, mauve, or yellow.
