Native Plant Focus: Leonard J. Buck Garden features native plantings, as well as exotics that grow well in the various microclimates represented here.

Description: Leonard J. Buck Garden is a nationally recognized naturalistic, woodland rock garden on 29 acres. The garden consists of a series of 12 planted rock outcroppings and woodland gardens situated in a wooded stream valley. The different garden areas have varying exposures and microclimates which enable a stunning collection of plants, including wildflowers, alpines, ferns, and azaleas, to flourish. Buck Garden also has two ponds, a brook, and swampy areas where everything from snakes to skunk cabbage and primroses thrive. There is a visitor center and a bird feeding station. Leonard J. Buck Garden is a facility of the Somerset County Park Commission (New Jersey.)
