L. Ray’s Butterfly, Dragonfly Paintings
June through August 16
Come explore a fascinating exhibit of butterfly and dragonfly watercolor paintings by L.Ray, the official Wildflower Days™ 2008 artist. In "Butterfly Portraits Beyond Scale," this East Texas artist creates flamboyant works in diptych and triptych form in the McDermott Learning Center. A hallmark of his art, which often includes flowers, is the use of light, contrast and the perception of movement.

Bronze Creatures on Display
June through August 17
The Wildflower Center provides an imaginative look at insects and other creatures this summer with a display of work by sculptor Nick Bakker. Featured through August 17 will be a six-foot long scorpion, a spider and other larger-than-life bronze sculptures of insects and strange creatures. The sculptures will be in the Butterfly Garden, complementing the Sculpture in the Wild Exhibit, 12 other nature-inspired sculptures on display until the end of June in the center's gardens.

Summer Camp with Abrakadoodle©
June 9 through August 21 Half-day and full-day options
Abrakadoodle©, Remarkable Art Education!, in partnership with the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, will provide 18 special half-day and full-day camp options for children ages 3-5 and 6-12, as well as one camp for 8 to 14 year olds (Animé Camp) this summer. Parents and their kids can join us for our new Family Nights workshops: "Soil, It's Alive" and "Amazing Aquifer"! Children will get a chance to experience hands-on learning and fun, while learning about artists of all kinds and their techniques during all our special art camps. Bonsai Exhibit Opens
June 29 through August 31
The Wildflower Center will host an exhibit of bonsai trees in the courtyard this summer for your enjoyment. All the specimens are Texas natives such as juniper and yaupon, on loan from the Austin Bonsai Society.

What's in Store
May 31 through July 6: The store hosts a mini-exhibit of wildflower and nature photography by Rick Tolar.
June 7: 11 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Jeannie Ralston speaks from 11 a.m to noon in the library and then signs her memoir, "The Unlikely Lavender Queen," in the store from noon to 2 p.m.
June 7: 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. As part of Hummingbird Month, all hummingbird-related items are 20 percent off today only.
June 14: 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The day before Father’s Day, the store has an array of fine leather goods for sale such as wallets, checkbook covers and laptop cases. Also available are a limited supply of seedlings grown from oak, pecan and cedar elm trees at the LBJ Ranch.
June 21 and June 22: This weekend only, outdoor living items are 20 percent off and include doormats, bird feeders and patio furniture.
June 28: 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Annual Summer Sales and Clearance today - up to 75 percent off on gifts, apparel and holiday items.

Volunteers Needed to Help Run Store
Tuesdays through Sundays, mornings or afternoons
The Wildflower Center Store, where sales benefit research and educational programs at the center, needs volunteers for various retail tasks. Duties would include check out, maintaining the store’s appearance and preparing inventory. Volunteers are needed especially for weekend morning and afternoon shifts. Coming in July:
Weekly Nature Nights
Thursdays in July, 6 to 9 p.m.
After a June break, join us for family fun four Thursday evenings in July. Nature Nights explore plants, animals and the ecology of Central Texas. Each evening will involve interactive presentations with experts, activities and habitat hikes. Families can learn about dragonflies with Dr. John Abbott (July 10), snakes with Dr. Travis LaDuc (July 17), raptors with a live 7 p.m. presentation by Last Chance Forever (July 24) and fossils (July 31) - sorry, no live dinosaurs for that one! $1 admission for all Nature Nights.
