A 1-2 ft. scape arises from Coralbells mound of heart-shaped leaves to bear loose clusters of small, pink to red, bell-shaped flowers. Bright, coral-red bells hang in a narrow cluster from upper part of a nearly leafless stalk; leaves mostly basal.

The dainty bells and dark green leaves make this a highly popular ornamental. Several other western species have smaller, pink or purplish flowers in more open clusters.
