A sprawling, prostrate plant with stems 4 ft. long from a taproot. The large, poppy-like flowers, 2-3 in. across, are a deep-magenta and are solitary and scattered on long peduncles. The leaves are variable, usually divided into 3-5 linear to elliptic segments.
