We design and manage our gardens to teach, inspire and please and to promote the use of native plants. Our gardens show how Texas native plants may be used in many landscapes and garden styles to bridge the gap between people and the natural world. On our 279 acres, we feature about 650 species of Texas native plants with a focus on the Central Texas Hill Country.

Don't miss the Courtyard, the Hill Country Stream and Woodland Garden, the Theme Gardens, the Home Owner Inspiration Gardens, the Butterly Garden and Insectary, the ponds and water features.

Home Owner Inspiration Garden

Naturalistic Garden
The Naturalistic Garden features locally native plants in an informal design. This garden adapts natural habitat settings and applies them to a smaller, garden scale. Four types of plant communities are represented, including an aquatic habitat in a stock tank pond and a short grass prairie/rock garden. This habitat garden not only attracts wildlife, but also provides a serene setting for observing nature at your doorstep.

Transitional Garden
The Transitional Garden is a cross between two other styles - formal and naturalistic. This garden combines formal elements, such as planting beds with distinct shapes and geometric shaped turf areas, with a more relaxed, overlapping plant scheme. It provides the organization of a formal design, combined with a more carefree atmosphere of a naturalistic garden.

Formal Garden
The is the newest of the three homeowner inspiration gardens. This garden demonstrates how native plants can be used to create a formal landscape. Formality is achieved by applying symmetry, clean lines, formal stone walkways, plants with strong architectural form and a controlled framework of plantings. Maintenance of this garden calls for more control of growth and shaping of the plants. The garden was designed by Jill Nokes - horticulturist, landscape designer, and author of How to Grow Native Plants of Texas and the Southwest .
