Abstract

Examines the relationship between cold temperatures and leaf movement in five Rhododendron species, including Rhododendron minus. Species tolerant of of cold weather had the most intense leaf movements, e.g., curling and leaf angle. Leaf movement was ultimately related to osmotic potential and water deficit. Results suggest that there is a trade off between cold tolerance and water stress tolerance.
