Abstract

This study is a comparison of the understory species found in a Georgia longleaf pine (reference site) ecosystem and a 65 year old revegetated slash pine plantation (restoration site). Dyschoriste oblongifolia is identified as a characteristic species of the longleaf pine community. The authors suggest that this species may need to be introduced into restored pine communities because dispersal distances are relatively short, being dependent upon gravity and ants.
