Temperature Control of Germination of Helenium amarum Seeds

Research Setting(s): Laboratory

Species Referenced: Helenium amarum (Yellow sneezeweed),

Abstract

Freshly harvested seeds of Helenium amarum were able to germinate to the same extent at 11°, 15°, and 19°C. Storage at room temperature resulted in lost viability, an increase in the optimal germination temperature and decreased sensitivity to high temperatures. The species appears to be well adapted for germinating in autumn and fall months when competition is low.
