Abstract
Researches the effects of corm circumference, plant density and nutrient solution strength (Hoagland) on the growth of Liatris spicata in a floating (soilless) production setting. Although the full-strength solution resulted in the best performance of L. spicata, management of the solution was time-consuming and residual nitrate levels were high, which could be a concern for environmental pollution. Increasing corm circumference increased the number of marketable stems per plant but there was higher mortality with bigger corms. Increasing plant density resulted in decreased per plant biomass but enhanced sellable production rates.Suggested Citation
