President Lyndon B. Johnson, the 36th President of the United States, would have been 100 years old this year. We are celebrating with many centennial events that highlight the accomplishments of his presidency and his years as Senate majority leader and vice president. This includes landmark legislation on civil rights, economic opportunity and social justice as well as space exploration, science and technology.

With the enthusiastic support of his wife, Lady Bird, Johnson also passed such important environmental legislation as the Highway Beautification Act of 1965, the Wilderness Act of 1964, the Land and Water Conservation Fund, the Wild and Scenic Rivers Program and many additions to the National Park system.

LBJ's 100th Birthday Celebration is Wednesday, August 27. Celebrate by visiting the Lyndon B. Johnson National Historic Park in Stonewall to see the newly-restored Texas White House, just as it was in the 1960's. A ceremony starting at 10:30 a.m. will include laying a wreath at President Johnson's grave.

Then visit the exhibit on space exploration" "To the Moon: The American Space Program in the 1960s" at the LBJ Library and Museum, 2313 Red River Street, Austin. The birthday celebration, complete with barbeque, ice cream, music and family friendly activities, will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Library.
