Habitat: Open, dry, alkaline roadside.
Description: Winter annual. Stems several from base, ascending, to 75 cm tall, branched above. Lower leaves pinnately lobed, upper ones linear, to 3 cm long, decurrent. Heads axillary in upper region. Involucre globose, 1 cm dia, plus spines, bur-like. Phyllaries in 5 series, firm, spinose w/1-2 pair of lateral spines. Corolla yellow; pappus bristles whining whit.
