Habitat: In shade of Juniperus ashei with rocks, but good soil high in humus.

Description: Tufted perennial with stems to 1 m tall in small clumps. Leaf auricles slender and fragile. Inflorescence a nodding spike 18 cm long. Spikelets paired at nodes,with 3-5 flowers. Glumes equal, tapering to a long awn.
