Native Plants
Piker, Walter J.
Walter Piker photographed wildflowers for more than 40 years. He became interested in wildflowers while helping his young daughter earn a Girl Scout badge. This interest led him to travel throughout the United States looking for and photographing wildflowers. He spent considerable time taking each shot making sure he had the perfect background and light to capture the best image of each subject. Walter's love of plants was sparked by a high school botany course in the 1930's, but the rest of his knowledge of wildflowers was self-taught through extensive reading and conversations with experts in the field. The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center is committed to developing the premier resource for native plant images in North America through continued growth of the Plant Image Gallery. You can help us achieve our mission ...to increase the sustainable use and conservation of native wildflowers, plants, and landscapes... by becoming a contributor.
