Shot: Close-up of "pitchers". This hybrid's parents are Sarracenia rubra and Sarracenia psittacina (Syn. = Sarracenia psittacina var. okefenokeensis). Photographer's Note: "According to "Sarraceniaceae of North America", McPherson and Schnell, the name Sarracenia ×gilpinii was given to the hybrid between the red and parrot pitcher plants in 1956. I understand the hybrid can be frequent in a couple of Georgia swamps. At this swamp, I only located one, despite lots of searching. I just didn't locate the main population in this swamp. It is a difficult place traverse. Several times I found my self waist to chest deep in peat muck. I had my kayak with me but there was not enough water to float it. There was plenty of what I call "stinging muck" There must be some type of stinging polyp living in it. It is quite annoying."
