Original Format: Digital Orientation: Landscape Shot: A mass of flowering plants on a granite outcrop. Photographer's note: "Confederate daisy is the local common name for this spectacular sunflower. It blooms profusely on granite outcrops in middle Georgia. Stone Mountain is famous for them. The last two years were pathetic bloom events because of drought. This year as you can see, it is normal. I exercised on the mountain yesterday and noticed near the summit that all the plants were in full bloom. I returned to my vehicle and grabbed my cameras thinking that I would visit the south side and take some photos. Not a single plant was blooming on the lower slopes. I climbed back towards the summit and took some images. Normally, all the plants on the mountain bloom at the same time but not usually until mid to late September."
