Shot: A flowering plant. Photographer's note: "So I am a bit confused as to the identity of this prickly pear cactus. The colony grows in a natural setting but I assumed it was an exotic species. I am not so sure now. There are references to a rare and local species described by J.K. Small in his 1933 Southeastern Flora. Several sites including U.S.D.A. seem to recognize it as a species. Best I can tell this is Opuntia turbinata."
