In Georgia, there is an undescribed dwarf form or subspecies that grows in four locations in the upper piedmont. It always grows on dry rocky mountains and ridges over ultramafic or meta-volcanic rocks. They rarely grow over head high and the shrubs sprawl. The fruit is spiny and the twigs stink."
