Native Plants
Q. Who is Mr. Smarty Plants?
A: There are those who suspect Wildflower Center volunteers are the culpable and capable culprits. Yet, others think staff members play some, albeit small, role. You can torture us with your plant questions, but we will never reveal the Green Guru's secret identity.

Title: Is Norfolk pine poisonous to cats?
Answered by: Nan Hampton
QUESTION:
Is a northfork pine poisonous to cats?ANSWER:
Mr. Smarty Plants thinks you must mean Norfolk Island pine (Araucaria heterophylla), which as its name suggests is native to Norfolk Island in the Pacific east of Australia. According to the ASPCA list of Plants Toxic to Cats, the Norfolk or Australian Pine IS toxic to cats. According to PullmanUSA it's toxic to both cats and dogs and its symptons are vomiting and depression.
